The 5 Best Things To Do in Melbourne, Australia

Updated: Sep 15, 2020

Melbourne is known as the city with the best coffee in the world, but there's so much more to this vibrant metropolis. Use our guide to help you find out the top things to do and places to see on a trip to Melbourne.

1. Great Ocean Road

A drive along the Victoria coastline will give you views you can't get anywhere else. With the ocean and 12 Apostles on one side, and the jaw-dropping Port Campbell National Park on the other, this scenic drive is absolutely worth the trip.

2. Royal Botanic Gardens

This botanical garden was established in the mid 1800s and has been thriving ever since. It sprawls over 94 acres and is free to visit. Highlights include: the Aboriginal Heritage Walk, the Ian Potter Foundation Children's Garden, and even movie nights during the summer!

3. Degraves Street

Melbourne is known for its laneways and arcades, and Degraves Street is one of the best. The variety of shops, restaurants, cafes, and more make this Parisian-looking lane worth exploring.

4. Eureka Tower

Named after the Eureka Stockade, the 1854 rebellion of prospectors in the Victorian goldfields, the view from the sky-deck is unbeatable. It's on the 88th floor of the building and is the highest public view in the Southern Hemisphere.

5. Phillip Island

Only two hours away from Melbourne, Phillip Island is a great day trip to get some beach time. If the wildlife, including world famous penguins, a koala sanctuary, and huge seal colony, isn't enough to make you want to visit, maybe the chocolate factory will!
