Winter Travel Bucket List
Even though we can't travel this holiday season, why not dream about the places we're adding to our travel bucket list for next year! These astonishing locations are perfect for getting in the best winter vacation with your loved ones.
1. The Rocky Mountains, Colorado
When you're visiting the Rocky Mountains in the winter, there is no shortage of activities to do. If you're looking for a good workout try sledding at Hidden Valley, or cross-country skiing in the mountains. If you prefer hiking, there are plenty of trails through the Rocky Mountains for all types of hikers. Too snowy? Throw some snowshoes on! If you love a good challenge and don't have a fear of heights, there are many opportunities to go ice climbing in the Rockies.
2. Patagonia, Argentina
If you're visiting Patagonia, Argentina, you must see the Perito Moreno glacier in the Los Glaciares National Park. This is the largest national park in Argentina and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. It is part of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field which is home to an impressive 48 glaciers. The Perito Moreno glacier is one of the most visited areas in Argentina as it covers a staggering 96 square miles and runs for 18.6 miles making it the third biggest freshwater reserve on the planet. Listen closely to the glacial ruptures and watch the blue and white colors intensify as the daylight changes.
3. Reykjavik, Iceland
Even though Iceland is beautiful year round, it is popular to visit during the winter months due to the increased chance of seeing the astonishing Northern Lights. Iceland is stunning year round, but in the winter, it looks like another world. Visit the black sand beach of Vík surrounded by pure, white snow. It'll make you feel like you're in a black and white movie! The beautiful waterfalls in Iceland freeze in the winter which makes for unique, unforgettable sights. The residential areas of the town are breathtaking as well; you'll be looking at the brightest, most colorful houses upon a blanket of white snow.
4. Yellowstone, Wyoming
Yellowstone National Park in the winter is a paradise for adventure travelers. You'll easily understand the beauty of visiting Yellowstone in the winter as you take in the views of the greatest collection of geothermal features found anywhere on the planet. Combine that with a lack of other human visitors, an abundance of fascinating wildlife and a fresh blanket of snow, and you've got one of the most beautiful places on earth.
5. Swiss Alps, Switzerland
The skiing in the Swiss Alps is absolutely unbeatable. Being one of the top spots in the world for skiing, the Swiss Alps are home to some the best ski resorts and slopes imaginable. Not only is this worth the trip just for the skiing, but for the scenery as well. The height of the mountains is unbelievable and overlook so many beautiful, isolated lakes that you’ll never want to leave. To give you a small idea of what to expect, the ski resort of Zermatt boasts 38 peaks over 4,000 metres alone.
